MAGYAR NÉPMŰVÉSZET -
Hungarian Folk Art Collection

Exhibition dates:
April 19, 2009 - Ongoing

A Word from the Curator

For the first time, the Museum of the American Hungarian Foundation is pleased to show material from its own collection of Hungarian Folk Art. The
exhibition is drawn from the Foundation's long-standing collection and selections from recent major gifts and promised gifts, which include the Teszár Family Hungarian Folk Art Collection, the Katalin Kádár Lynn Collection and the Hungarian Folk Art Collection of The Salgo Trust for Education.

The museum has been collecting art and objects related to Hungarian culture since 1957. The addition of these collections brings a new emphasis on folk
tradition to the museum's holdings. This exhibition, rather than attempting to present a comprehensive survey of Hungarian Folk Art, is presenting instead a "taste" of this genre, allowing the museum to display the best of its collection and to showcase the recent gifts. We receive these donations with pleasure and gratitude and with confidence we recognize that they will be a great resource for study and enjoyment.
